Class Description
Music Class at Ascension explores all aspects of music from creating, performing, and listening to music history, world music, and music theory. The goal of the Music program is to instill in our students a life-long love of music and prepare our students to successfully engage with music in school, church, and the community. Our music curriculum uses the National Standards of Music to create learning experiences which target all aspects of music and help create well rounded musicians. Movement is a large component of all music classes as it encourages students to use full body motion to help internalize specific concepts and connect with music on a deeper level. Composing and creating are frequently incorporated in music class. All grades from Jr kindergarten through eighth grade are encouraged to explore music by composing and creating their own musical masterpieces. Students are taught and able to use technology such as GarageBand and notation software to record and notate their creations. All students are given opportunities to engage with and play instruments such as various percussion instruments, Ukulele, Guitar, and keyboard. The music program is focused on providing engaging activities for students that not only build a strong musical foundation but are fun and memorable.
